Establishment of the Geologists Regulation Act

On April 1, 1998, the Nebraska Unicameral passed LB 1161 establishing the Geologists Regulation Act. This Act (Statutes 81-3501 to 81-3541) provides for the certification and licensure of professional geologists in Nebraska whose activities may affect public health, safety and welfare. The Nebraska Board of Geologists was created to implement the Geologists Regulation Act.

New Rules and Regulations Effective July 29, 2007

Title 171 of the Nebraska Administrative Code, Rules and Regulations of the Nebraska Board of Geologists has been approved by the Governor and is now in effect.  The regulations define a code of practice by which the members can govern their professional conduct as well as procedures for licensure and operation of the Board.

LB664 Effective September 1, 2007

On May 16, 2007, LB664 was signed by the Governor after passage in the legislature.  The bill eliminates an exemption in the Geologists Registration Act (found in Nebr. Rev. Stat. § 81-3541) for licensure for work for which state approval or permitting is required, if such activity is in accordance with other requirements of law, rules, or regulations pertaining to the use of a geologist.
